TrueStoryPath is a personal blog run by me, Ren, from my home in Singapore. I am not a company and I do not sell products through this site. Still, when you send a message or when your browser loads a page, a small amount of information is processed. This note explains what I collect, why, how long I keep it, and what rights you have under Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA).

Who is responsible

The data controller for this website is:

Ren (personal blog author)
Blk 52 Chin Swee Road, #03-14
Singapore 160052
Email: [email protected]
Phone: +65 6228 4190

What personal data I collect

I collect only what is needed to run a simple personal blog with a contact form:

  • Contact form: your name, email address, message content, and your explicit consent checkbox. I also record the time your message was sent (Singapore time) for my own records.
  • Cookies: a small preference cookie if you interact with the cookie banner (your choice of Accept all, Reject all, or Customise settings). If you allow analytics cookies, basic, anonymised usage data may be collected by my analytics provider (pages visited, approximate location at country level, device type). I do not use advertising cookies on this site.
  • Server logs: my hosting provider may automatically log technical data such as IP address, browser type, and access time for security and troubleshooting. I do not actively use these logs to identify individual readers.

I do not collect payment information, NRIC or FIN numbers, precise location tracking, or sensitive health data. There is no newsletter signup and no account registration.

Why I collect it

  • To read and reply to messages you send through the contact form.
  • To remember your cookie preferences so the banner does not appear on every visit.
  • To understand, in broad terms, which posts are being read — only if you have allowed analytics cookies.
  • To keep the site secure and functioning.

Legal basis and consent

Under the PDPA, I rely on your consent for the contact form (the checkbox is not pre-ticked) and for non-essential cookies. Essential cookies required for the site to remember your cookie choice are treated as necessary for the operation of the service you request. You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting me or by changing your cookie settings in the banner (clear your browser cookies to see the banner again).

How long I keep your data

  • Contact messages: up to twelve months, unless we have an ongoing correspondence or I need to keep a message longer to resolve a dispute. After that, I delete or anonymise them.
  • Cookie consent preference: six months, then the banner will ask again.
  • Analytics data: retained according to my analytics provider's default retention settings, typically up to fourteen months, and only if you have consented.

Who I share data with

I do not sell or rent your personal data. I may share limited information with:

  • My email and hosting providers, solely to deliver and store messages and serve the website.
  • My analytics provider, only if you have accepted analytics cookies.
  • Authorities, if required by Singapore law — though for a personal blog this is exceedingly unlikely.

These providers may process data outside Singapore. Where they do, I expect them to maintain appropriate safeguards consistent with the PDPA.

Your rights

Under the PDPA, you may:

  • Ask what personal data I hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your data, subject to any legal retention requirements.
  • Withdraw consent for future processing.
  • Make a complaint to the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) if you believe I have handled your data improperly.

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] with the subject line "Data request". I will respond within a reasonable time, usually within thirty days.

Cookies in detail

Essential: stores your cookie banner choice (name: tsp_cookie_consent, duration: six months). Without this, the site cannot remember whether you accepted or rejected optional cookies.

Analytics (optional): if you choose Accept all or enable analytics in Customise, a basic analytics cookie may be set to count visits and page views in aggregate. You can reject this and still read the entire site.

You can also block cookies through your browser settings. The site will remain readable if JavaScript is disabled; the cookie banner simply will not remember your choice between sessions.

Children

This blog is written for a general audience and is not directed at children under thirteen. I do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has submitted a contact form message, please let me know and I will delete it.

Changes to this note

I may update this page if my practices change — for example, if I switch hosting providers or adjust analytics. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when I do. Material changes will also be noted here in plain language.

Personal blog disclaimer

Everything published on TrueStoryPath is written by me and reflects my own experiences, opinions and memories at the time of writing. Posts are personal reflections and short true-to-life stories — not journalism and not professional, medical, legal, financial or fitness advice. Places and everyday moments are described from my own point of view. I do not name or speak for other people, and I try to write about my neighbourhood kindly and honestly. If you believe I have made a factual error, please tell me and I will correct it where appropriate.
